adaab (manners) of duas

adaab (manners) of duas

The generally accepted rule is at least 3 times, or seven, or ten. So make the appropriate duas at least three times after every fard prayers. When one has a pressing problem, one is thinking mostly of that problem. One can say the prayer 100 times, or even more. Or these can be made without counting. One can make dua all the time, except when in the bathroom.

Manners of Making Dua

1st Manner: Asking Allah alone

Allah (I) says:

“Do not make du’a to anyone alongside Allah.” (70:18)

Allah (I) says:

“Say (O’ Muhammad): I make du’a unto Allah only, and I ascribe unto Him no partner.” (70:20)

The Prophet (may Allah praise him) said:

“Du’aa<1> is worship”

Making du’a is an act of worship; directing, one’s worship to other than Allah alone is an act of major shirk.

2nd Manner: Praising Allah at the beginning of the du’a and asking Allah to praise His Prophet at the end of it.

Fudalah b. 'Ubaid reported that the Prophet (may Allah praise him) heard a man supplicating during prayer: the man prayed “O Allah, forgive me and have mercy on me.” So the Prophet (may Allah praise him) told him,

“You were hasty. When you pray, praise Allah, ask Allah to exalt my mention, then ask Allah.”

Another man praised Allah and asked Allah to exalt the mention of His prophet (may Allah praise him) so he (may Allah praise him) said:

“O supplicant, ask Allah and your prayer will be answered.”

Buraidah reported that the Prophet (may Allah praise him) heard a man saying, "O Allah, I ask You, I bear witness that there is no god but You, the One, the As-Samadh (the One upon Whom all creatures depend). He begets not, nor was He begotten; and there is none like unto Him." The Prophet (may Allah praise him) said,

"You have asked Allah by His Greatest Name. When one asks Him by this name, He gives, what one desires, and when supplicated by this name He answers." (Reported by Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi, who regards it a sound hadith)

Ibn Mas`ud (May Allah be pleased with him) said, "Allah does not accept du’a from the conceited, the one who flaunts and the one who is not serious, (He accepts only) from a person who praises and asks from his heart."

3rd Manner: Repenting to Allah

The person should repent for all of their sins and sincerely beg for Allah’s forgiveness.

4th Manner: Yaqeen (Certainty) and not being hasty

The person should be certain that their du’a will be answered. The Prophet (may Allah praise him) said:

“Ask Allah with certainty that He will answer your prayers, and know that Allah will not accept the supplication from an absent heart.” (at-Tirmidhi)

The Prophet (may Allah praise him) said:

“When you ask Allah, ask with confidence.”

Abu Hurairah also reported that the Prophet (may Allah praise him) said:

"None of you should say, 'O Allah, forgive me if You wish, (or) O Allah, have mercy on me if you wish.' Rather you should be firm in your request, for (Allah does whatever He wishes) and no one can force Him to do otherwise."

Some of the early Muslims used to say that the supplicant should be like a child when you ask Allah, crying until you are answered.

Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet (may Allah praise him) said:

“The person’s supplication will be answered unless he asks for sin or severing the ties of kinship, except if the person is hasty.”

Then the Prophet (may Allah praise him) was asked about hastiness. So the Prophet (may Allah praise him) described it as:

“The person says, ‘I asked, and I have not seen the answer.’ Then he leaves dua.”

`Umar (May Allah be please with him) said: "I do not carry the worry of acceptance but the worry of du’a. If I am inspired on how du’a is made, acceptance will accompany it."

`Aisha (May Allah be pleased with her) said: "No believer makes du’a and it is wasted. Either it is granted here in this world or deposited for him in the Hereafter as long as he does not get frustrated."

5th Manner: Asking Allah three times

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud reported that the Prophet (may Allah praise him) loved to repeat his supplication three times, and pray for forgiveness three times. (Abu Dawud)

The Prophet (may Allah praise him) said:

“If you ask Allah for the Jannah (The Heavenly Gardens) three times, the Jannah will say, ‘O Allah, make him enter Jannah.’ And if you ask Allah to protect you from hellfire three times, hellfire will say, ‘O Allah, protect him from the hellfire.’”

6th Manner: Asking in secret and supplicating in neither a loud nor low voice

Allah (I) says:

“A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His slave Zakariyyah when he cried to his Lord a cry in secret.” (19:2)

Allah (I) says:

“Neither say your prayer aloud, nor speak it in a low tone, but seek a middle course between.” (17:110)

Allah (I) says:

“Call on your Lord with humility and in private, for Allah does not love those who go beyond bounds.” (7:55)

Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari reported, "Once the people raised their voices in supplication. At this the Prophet (may Allah praise him) said:

'Be easy on yourselves. You are not calling upon someone deaf or absent. You are calling upon one who is All-seeing and All-hearing. He is nearer to you than the neck of your mount. O’ Abdullah b. Qais, shall I tell you a word that is one of the treasures of Paradise? It is: "There is no power, nor any might except with the permission of Allah'' (Muslim & Bukhari)

Abdullah ibn 'Umar reported that the Prophet (may Allah praise him) said:

"Hearts are like vessels, some more attentive and capacious than others. When you supplicate Allah you should be certain of being answered, and know that Allah does not answer a supplication that comes from a careless and inattentive heart." (Ahmad)

7th Manner: Tahaarah

It is preferred to have wudhu when making du’a.

8th Manner: Facing the Qiblah

It is more honorable to face the Qiblah when making du’a if possible. The Prophet (may Allah praise him) went out and prayed for rain and faced the Qiblah.

9th Manner: To ask Allah by His names and attributes

Allah (I) says:

“And to Allah belongs the beautiful names, so invoke Him by them.” (7:180)

10th Manner: Raising the hands

Salman narrated from the Prophet (may Allah praise him):

“Surely Allah is Hayyee, and He loves to conceal the shortcomings of His slaves. If His slave raises his hands, He does not let him go empty handed.”

Malik b. Yassar reported that the Prophet (may Allah praise him) said:

"Supplicate Allah while your palms are open and do not supplicate Him with their backs upwards."

Ibn 'Abbas is reported as saying, "When asking for something from Allah, you should raise your hands opposite to your shoulders; when asking for forgiveness you should point with one finger; and when making an earnest supplication you should spread out both your hands." (Abu Dawud)

11th Manner: Not consuming the Haraam (unlawful)

On the authority of Abu Hurairah, The Messenger of Allah (may Allah praise him) said:

“Allah the Almighty is good and accepts only that which is good. Allah has commanded the faithful to do that which he commanded the messengers and the Almighty has said: ‘O Messengers! Eat of the good things and do right.’ And Allah the Almighty has said, ‘O you who believe! Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you.’”

Then he (may Allah praise him) mentioned a man who having journeyed far was disheveled and dusty and spreads out his hands to the sky "O Lord! O Lord!" His (the traveler’s) food is unlawful, his drink unlawful, his clothing unlawful, and he is nourished unlawfully; so how can he be answered?!

timbuktu says: However, these days we find oueselves overwhelmed with haram. At least have the intention to leave haram, and seek Allah's help in this too.

12th Manner: Doing good deeds and asking Allah by one’s good deeds

Qasim bin `Abd said: "I said to Anas bin Malik: 'O Abu Hamzah pray to Allah for us.' He said: 'Du’a is elevated by good deeds.'"

Bukhari and Muslim relate the hadîth of the Prophet (may Allah praise him) of the story of three men, who each supplicated to Allah by (mentioning) a good deed they had done earlier in their lives.

“Three persons of a people before you were on a journey when they were overtaken by a storm; therefore, they took shelter in a cave. A rock slipped down from the mountain and blocked the exit of the cave. One of them said, ‘The only way for deliverance is to beseech Allah and (to mention) some virtuous deed (he did purely for His sake).’”

One of the men mentioned a good deed which they had done for Allah, and supplicated, “O Lord, if I did this thing seeking only Thy pleasure, then do Thou relieve us of the distress wrought upon us by this rock.”

The rock moved, but not enough to free the men. So, the other two made similar supplications while mentioning their good deeds until the rock moved enough to free them.

13th Manner: Asking Allah in times of ease before hardship

The Prophet (may Allah praise him) said:

“Whoever is pleased that Allah answers his prayers during hardships and difficulties let him make much supplication during times of ease.” (at-Tirmidhi)

14th Manner: Knowing the best times for du’a

Some of the best times to make du’a are:

1) Middle of the night

The Messenger (may Allah praise him) said:

"The Gates of Heaven are open at midnight, and a caller calls: 'Is there a supplicant that his supplication may be granted? Is there a petitioner that his petition may be granted? Is there a distressed person so that his distress may be removed?' At that time, no Muslim makes a du'a but that it is answered, except for an adulteress who trades with her body, or a person who gathers his money unlawfully." [Sahih al-Jami' 2968]

2) At the time of athaan and between it and the iqamah

The Messenger (may Allah praise him) said:

"A du'a between athaan and the iqamah is not refused, so supplicate during that time."

The Messenger (may Allah praise him) said:

"Two kinds of du'a are not rejected - or rarely are they rejected - du'a at the time of the call for prayer, and du'a at the time of fighting when the warriors are on the battlefield."

3) On Friday after 'Asr

The Messenger (may Allah praise him) said:

"Friday has twelve periods. Among them is a period when no Muslim asks Allah for anything but He grants it to him. Search for that period late after 'Asr." [Sahih al-Jami' 8402]

4) When it is raining

The Messenger (may Allah praise him) said:

"Two kinds of du'a are not rejected: du'a at the time of the call for prayer, and du'a during rain."

5) i. A parents du'a for his child
ii. when one is fasting and
iii. while travelling.

The Messenger (may Allah praise him) said:

"Three types of du'a are undoubtedly granted: a parent's du'a for his children, du'a of a fasting person, and du'a of the traveler."

6) While Making Sujood

The Prophet (may Allah praise him) said:

“The slave is closest to his Lord while in sujood, so ask Allah in that time.”

7) Laylat’ul-Qadr

Aisha asked the Prophet (may Allah praise him) “What should I say on Laylat’il-Qadr?” And he replied,

“O Allah, indeed you are oft-forgiving, and love to forgive – so forgive me.”

15th Manner: Making du’a for others

The Prophet, (may Allah praise him) said:

“Whenever you make a supplication for another believer and he is not present, an angel will say ‘and same to you.’”

Abdallah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As reported that the Prophet (may Allah praise him) said:

"The supplication that gets the quickest answer is the one made by one Muslim for another in his absence.'' (Abu Daw'ud and Tirmidhi)

16th Manner: Not making du’a against oneself or one’s children

The Prophet (may Allah praise him) said:

“Don’t make du’a against yourselves. Don’t make du’a against your children. Don’t make du’a against your maids. And don’t make du’a against your wealth. You might supplicate Allah during a time in which He answers the prayers.” (Abu Dawud)

17th Manner: Different types of people whose du’a is accepted

The Prophet (may Allah praise him) said:

"The supplications of three persons are accepted, and there is no doubt concerning their acceptance: the supplication of a father, of a traveler, and of one who is wronged.' (Ahmad, Abu Dawud, and Tirmidhi)

The Prophet (may Allah praise him) also said:

"The supplications of three persons are not rejected: the supplication of a fasting person at the time of breaking fast, of a just ruler, and of a person who is wronged. Allah causes their supplications to rise above the clouds, and gates of heaven are opened for them, and Allah says, 'By My Majesty, I will help you, even it be after a while'."

(Reported by Tirmidhi)

18th Manner: Memorizing the Authentic Supplications and du’as of the Prophet [Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him]

We should all do our best to memorize the different du’as made by the Prophet (may Allah praise him) in the different situations throughout our day, to keep ours tongues wet with the remembrance of Allah, and by extension purify our hearts.

Istikhara- Allah's guidance in decision

Istikharah prayer is a two-rak`ah non-obligatory Prayer by which one seeks Allah's guidance when he is confused or can't choose between permissible alternatives. In this case, the Muslim should pray to Allah the Almighty to guide him to whatever He sees fit for him and make his heart satisfied with the decision.

In the Prayer, one asks Allah to facilitate the matter if it is good and turn it away if it is not. Thus, after praying Istikharah, one should decide on a course of action, and trust that if the matter does not work out, it is because it was not good for him. One should not then feel disappointed if things did not go as hoped.

Istikharah is only prescribed for matters deemed permissible by the Shari`ah and not for any issue that plainly opposes Allah's Laws. It is when you have two permissible options and you do not know which is better for you that you should resort to Allah the Almighty to seek His guidance.

In response to your question, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states:

“Istikharah means, "seeking the best course of action." In Islam, it is used for approaching Allah through Prayer for guidance in a case when one cannot make up his mind. It should, however, be pointed out, that Istikharah applies strictly to cases that are halal (lawful or permissible), since there cannot be a question of choice concerning matters that are considered haram (unlalwful or impermissible).

When faced with important decisions in life, a believer is persuaded to use all of his Allah-given resources, as well as to consult people who are known for their knowledge, piety and sound opinion. After having done so, he can turn to Allah for guidance.

Humans are limited in knowledge, and Allah alone possesses perfect knowledge. Allah has told us that He alone possesses the keys to all that is good. He has also promised to help us if we turn to Him earnestly and sincerely.

We see around us people doing all sorts of things for confirmation when faced with important decisions in their life. The Pre-Islamic Arabs resorted to the practice of divining with arrows or the stirring of birds. In modern times, even some of the most prominent people consult astrologers, psychics, gurus or so called spiritual masters. Islam teaches that since Allah alone knows the unseen realities, and He alone is aware of what is good for us in an absolute sense, we must seek His help.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) taught us how to do so. He told us that if we are faced with decisions in life and are unable to make up our mind, we must approach Allah through Prayer. This Prayer is called Prayer of Istikharah. It is a Sunnah or a highly recommended act. The specific method of doing it, is as follows:

First, one must offer a Prayer of two rak`ahs with the intention of seeking guidance from Allah. Then he should offer the following supplication:

the same dua from another source:

"Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi`ilmika, wa astaqdiruka bi-qudratika, wa as'aluka min fadlika al-azim, fa'innaka taqdiru wala aqdiru, wa ta`lamu wa la a`lamu, wa anta `allamu-l-ghuyub.

Allahumma, in kunta ta`lamu anna hadhal-amra [here mention your case] khairun li fi dini wa ma`ashi wa `aqibati 'amri (or 'ajili amri wa`ajilihi) faqdurhu li wa yas-sirhu li thumma barik li fihi.

Wa in ta`lamu anna hadhal-amra sharrun li fi deeni wa ma`ashi wa `aqibati 'amri (or `ajili amri wa ajilihi) fasrifhu `anni was-rifni `anhu, waqdur liya al-khaira haithu kana thumma 'ardini bihi.”

(O Allah, I seek Your help in finding out the best course of action (in this matter) by invoking Your knowledge; I ask You to empower me, and I beseech Your favor. You alone have the absolute power, while I have no power. You alone know it all, while I do not. You are the One Who knows the hidden mysteries. O Allah, if You know this thing (I am embarking on) [here mention your case] is good for me in my religion, worldly life, and my ultimate destiny, then facilitate it for me, and then bless me in my action. If, on the other hand, You know this thing is detrimental for me in my religion, worldly life, and ultimate destiny, turn it away from me, and turn me away from it, and decree what is good for me, wherever it may be, and make me content with it.)

After having done so, he/she should follow the decision that he/she is strongly inclined to. If he/she feels no such inclination, then he/she should choose one of the options; he can rest assured that Allah will guide his steps. It has been reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "One who asks Allah for guidance in choosing the best course of action will never be a loser."

It is not at all necessary for a person to have visions or dreams following Istikharah. However, if a person does experience a vision or dream, and he feels strongly about it, he should follow it.”

Imam An-Nawawi (may Allah bless his soul) adds:

“After making Istikharah, a person must do what he or she is wholeheartedly inclined to do and feels good about doing and should not insist on doing what he/she had desired to do before making the Istikharah. And if his or her feelings change, he or she should leave what he or she had intended to do, for otherwise he or she is not leaving the choice to Allah, and would not be honest in seeking help from Allah's power and knowledge. Sincerity in seeking Allah's choice means that one should completely abandon what one desired oneself.”

Also, Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi, former head of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and member of the Fiqh Council of North America, states:

“Doing Istikharah does not mean that one should not use one's reason or experience. Allah the Exalted has commanded us in the Qur'an that we should use our intellect and seek knowledge. If we do not know something, we should ask those who know. But human reason has limitations. We do not know everything; only Allah does know all things. When we are faced with a dilemma then we should turn to Allah to seek His guidance.

After offering Istikharah, you may do whatever is best in your understanding or whatever convinces you. You may repeat the du`a' of Istikharah several times if you are still hesitant. It is not necessary to dream about anything and you do not have to wait for an answer in your dreams. It is reported in a Hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Anas, when you intend to do some important things, then seek the good (seek Istikharah) from your Lord seven times and then do that to which your heart (or mind) is inclined, because the good is in it."

Most of the hadiths on this subject do not talk about any dream. However, the famous Hanafi jurist Ibn `Abdeen has suggested in his Hashiyah that one should make the Istikharah Prayer before sleeping, and should sleep after having performed Wudu'. The face should be towards Makkah. If one sees something white or green in one's dream, then the answer is yes, but if one sees something dark or red then the answer is no.

Other jurists of Shafi`i, Maliki, Hanbali and Ja`fari schools say that one should do that which is most convincing. According to Imam Malik, other people can also perform Istikharah on behalf of someone.

There is nothing strange about dreams. If you did not see any dreams, then it does not mean that dreams do not occur. After the Istikharah Prayer, some people may see a dream and some may not. We know that some of our dreams become true. Some time we see something in a dream and it happens exactly the same way later. As there are good dreams and bad dreams, so there are also true and false dreams. The interpretation of dreams is a special knowledge that some people have. In the Qur'an many dreams are mentioned. Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) saw in his dream that he was sacrificing his son. Prophet Yusuf (peace be upon him) had dreams and Allah also gave him the knowledge of interpreting dreams. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) also sometimes interpreted the dreams of his Companions.”

Allah Almighty knows best.

10 Ways to protect yourself from SHAITAAN

1. Seeking refuge with Allah from Shaytan. Allah the Most High said,“And if there comes to you from Satan an evil suggestion, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.” [41:36]

2. Recitation of the two surahs al-Falaq and an-Nas, as they have wondrous effect in seeking refuge with Allah from his evil, weakening Shaytan and protection from him. This is why the Messenger, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, said: “No person seeks refuge with anything like the Mu`awwidhatayn (surahs al-Falaq and an-Nas)”. [an-Nasaa’i, 5337]

3. Recitation of Ayat al-Kursi (2:255).

4. Recitation of surah al-Baqarah. The Messenger, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, said, “The house in which al-Baqarah is recited is not approached by Shaytan.” [Muslim]

5. The final part of al-Baqarah. The Messenger, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, said, “Whoever recites the two last verses of al-Baqarah at night they will suffice him.” [Muslim]

6. Recitation of the beginning of surah Mu’min (Ghafir), until His saying, “wa ilayhi-l-maseer” (to Him is the destination). (i.e. “Ha. Meem. The revelation of the Book is from Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Knowing, the forgiver of sin, acceptor of repentance, severe in punishment, owner of abundance. There is no deity except Him; to Him is the destination.” [40:1-2])

7. Saying “la ilaha ill Allah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa `ala kulli shay’in qadir” (there is nothing worthy of worship except Allah, He has no partner, His is the Dominion and Praise, and He is able to do all things) a hundred times.

8. The most beneficial form of protection from Shaytan: abundance of remembrance of Allah, the Exalted.

9. Ablution and prayer, and they are from among the greatest means of protection, especially at the time of emergence of anger and desire.

10. Abstinence from excess speech, food and mixing with people.

Prophet Muhammad? said: "Two words are light on the tongue, weigh heavily in the balance, they are loved by the Most Merciful One."[5]

- SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah)

Whoever recites [the above] one Hundred times, a thousand good deeds are recorded for him or a thousand bad deeds are wiped away.[6]

- La Hawla wa la Quwatta illa Billah (There is no Might or Power except with Allah)

[the above is] a treasure from the treasures of Paradise.[7]

- SubhanAllah, walHamdulilah, wa La illaha ilAllahu, waAllahu Akbar (Glory be to Allah, All Praise is for Allah, There is No God but Allah, Allah is the Greatest)

The above are mentioned as the four most beloved words to Allah. It does not matter with which one of them is begun.[8]

Abu Sa`id reported that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said, "Perform the enduring goods deeds (al-baaqiyaat al-SaliHaat) more frequently." They asked, "What are these enduring good deeds?" The Prophet replied: Takbir [Allahu Akbar], Tahlil [la ilaha illallah], Tasbih [Subhan'Allah], alhamdulillah, and la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.[9]

- SubhanAllah, walHamdulilah, wa La illaha ilAllahu, waAllahu Akbar (Glory be to Allah, All Praise is for Allah, There is No God but Allah, Allah is the Greatest)

Prophet Muhammad? said: ?For me to say (the above) is dearer to me and all that the sun rises upon (ie the whole world).?[10]

- SubhanAllah, walHamdulilah, wa La illaha ilAllahu, waAllahu Akbar, wa la Hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (Glory be to Allah, All Praise is for Allah, There is No God but Allah, Allah is the Greatest, There is no might or any power Except with Allah)

(The above) are the good deeds which endure [al-baqiyaatuS-SaliHaat]

-? SubhanAllah, walHamdulilah, wa La illaha ilAllahu, waAllahu Akbar, wa la Hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (Glory be to Allah, All Praise is for Allah, There is No God but Allah, Allah is the Greatest, There is no might or any power Except with Allah)

Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud reported that the Prophet said: "During the Night Journey I met Ibrahim (alayhis salam) who said to me: ?O Muhammad, convey my greetings to your Community, and tell them that the Paradise is of pure land, its water is sweet, and its expanse is vast, spacious and even. And its seedlings are SubhanAllah, walhamdulilah, wa la ilaha ilAllah, waAllahu Akbar (the above).??[11]

- Alhamdulilah (All Praise is for Allah) - Verily the best supplication is (above).[12]

- La illaha ilAllah(u) (There is No God But Allah)

The best form of remembrance is (above).[13]

- La illaha ilAllah(u) (There is No God But Allah)

Abu Huraira? reported that the Prophet? said: "When a servant of Allah utters the words la ilaha illallah (there is no God except Allah) sincerely, the doors of heaven open up for these words until they reach the Throne of Allah, so long as its utterer keeps away from the major sins.?[14]

- La illaha ilAllah(u) (There is No God But Allah)

Abu Huraira? reported that the Prophet? said, "Renew your faith." "How can we renew our faith?" they asked. The Prophet replied: "Say always: la ilaha illallah."[15]

- La illaha ilAllahu, waHdahu la shareeka lahu, lahul Mulku, wa lahul Hamd, wa Huwa ala kulli shaiy'in Qadeer (There is No God But Allah Alone, who has no partner. His is the dominion and His is the raise, and He is Able to do all things)

Whoever says the above ten times, will have the reward for freeing four slaves from the Children of Isma'il .[16]

Whoever says the above one Hundred times, has the reward of freeing ten slaves, a hundred good deeds are recorded for him and a hundred bad deeds are wiped away and he has gained refuge from the devil that day until evening and none shall come with anything better except someone who has done more.[17]

- La illaha ilAllahu, Wahidda(n), Ahada(n), Samada(n), lam yatakhidh sahiba(n). Wa la walada, wa la yak(n)ul-lahu kufuwan Ahad (There is no God except Allah, the One and Only, the Eternal, Who has not taken a partner nor a son. And there is none like unto Him)

Whoever says the words above ten times, then 40,000 (forty thousand) good deeds will be recorded for him.[18]

- Astaghfirullah al-'Adheemal-ladhi la ilaha illa Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyum wa atubu ilaih (I seek the forgiveness of Allah the Mighty, Whom there is none worthy except Him, the Living, The Eternal, and I repent unto Him)

Whoever says the above words, Allah will forgive him even if he deserted the army's ranks.[19]

You are my Lord! None has the right to be worshipped but You. You created me and I am Your slave, and I am faithful to my covenant and my promise as much as I can. I seek refuge with You from all the evil I have done. I acknowledge before You all the blessings You have bestowed upon me, and I confess to You all my sins. So I entreat You to forgive my sins, for nobody can forgive sins except You.)

The above du'a is known as the Sayyid al-Istighfar and is the most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah. Whoever says it during the day with firm faith in it, and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise; and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise.[20]

If someone implements ten verses of the Qur'an, He/She will not be considerate amongst the negligent on the Day of Judgment.[21]

If someone implements one hundred verses of the Qur'an, He/She will be considered among the obedient on the Day of Judgment.[22]

If someone implements one thousand verses of the Qur'an, He/She will be amongst the extremely rich on the Day of Judgement.[23]
